Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST)

Fascial stretch therapy can help with a lot of things, but first I should answer this question:  What is fascia? Fascia is connective tissue that runs throughout your body.  Have a look at the picture above.  If it is healthy, it should look like a wet spider web.  This web of connective tissue is found throughout the body but, we’re going to focus on the tissue that surrounds the muscles and lays under the skin.  Research has found that this connective tissue wraps around the muscles kind of like a tube sock.   If this tissue is “tight”, then it can contribute to:

  • reduced range of motion
  • flexibility issues
  • pain at the joints and in the muscles
  • reduced muscle strength
Fascia is like a spider web that lies under the skin and over the muscles.  It also wraps around each muscle fibre and holds your organs in place.  Nerves and blood vessels run through the fascia as well.
What is Fascial Stretch Therapy? (FST)

FST is a type of assisted stretching.  Instead of stretching the muscles, we work on stretching the tissue surrounding the muscle.  Kind of like loosening up that tube sock!   The client is fully dressed and lies on a massage table.  As an FST Provider, I can assess what areas are tight and then apply some different Fascial Stretches to help loosen the tight areas.

Some of the benefits you might experience are:

  • improved flexibility
  • reduced muscle pain
  • reduced joint pain
  • increased circulation
  • releases endorphins which provide natural pain relief
  • improved athletic performance due to increased range of motion
  • a great night’s sleep
  • helps with recovery from hip & knee replacements
  • excellent to help gain range of motion from frozen shoulder, rotator cuff issues and more
